WHEN
CATHOLICS GO ON VACATION
Now that the summer
season is with us, please remember if your vacation takes you outside the
parish that we "never take a vacation from the Lord". You can log on
to www.Masstimes.org to find a
church where you can attend Mass anywhere in the world. Also, remember that you
can stay in touch with us on-line at www.ststephenparish.org
Inspirational Catholic CDs ‑ Another way of staying in touch with your
Faith is to listen to the CDs that are available on the display stands in the
front lobby of the Church. They offer valuable information about Catholicism
and can be listened to while driving in your car. All we ask is a donation of
$3 for each CD.
The Chaplet of Mercy is
recited in the Church every Saturday after the 4:00 pm Mass. If you wish to join us, come close to the choir area
and pray with us. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us!

Canon Law
Qualifications for
Sponsors for
Baptism/Confirmation
Some people come forward to be godparents for
Baptism or sponsors for Confirmation without realizing they have to meet
certain qualifications. Here are the requirements that must be met by possible
godparents or sponsors:
Canon
872 “Insofar as possible one to be baptized is
to be given a sponsor who is to assist an adult in Christian initiation or,
together with the parents, to present an infant at Baptism, and who will help
the baptized to lead a Christian life in harmony with Baptism, and to fulfill
faithfully the obligations connected with it.”
Canon 874 “To be admitted to the role of sponsor, a
person must have completed the sixteenth year … be a Catholic who has been
confirmed and has already received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist,
and lead a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken. A baptized person who belongs to a
non-Catholic ecclesial community may not be admitted except as a witness to
Baptism and together with a Catholic sponsor.”
Because so many
Catholics today do not lead “a life in harmony with the faith,” we thought that
the requirements of Canon Law for
the selection of godparents should be brought to the attention of parents or
prospective parents. It is embarrassing for all
concerned when parents arranging for the baptism of their child present as a
godparent a person who does not live “a life in harmony with the faith.”
This means weekly participation in Sunday Mass to fulfill the
commandment of God to keep holy His day and the command of Jesus to “Do this in
memory of Me.” Also, those who are married are required to be in a Catholic
Christian union, and the godparents must have received the Sacrament of
Confirmation.
The Lord said to her in reply,
"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is
need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be
taken from her." - Lk 10:41-42

JULY; MONTH DEDICATED TO THE MOST PRECIOUS BLOOOD OF JESUS
Lord Jesus, you once asked us to love our enemies
and to pray for those who hurt us.
Hear my prayer today, for my love is not perfect
and my prayer is never complete.
There are some people I just do not know how to pray for;
I do not know how to be reconciled with them,
but you are the source of all reconciliation and through your blood, you
offered loving forgiveness to every sinner.
Bless me and my enemy, as you would see fit,
and lead us one day to that perfect reconciliation
that comes from you alone. Amen.
