English Prayer GroupThe Servants of the Holy Spirit Prayer Group will meet as usual on Monday, June 28th, in the Saint Paul Room of the school at the usual time of 7:00 to 9 00 p.m. Come ready to share your testimonies and to give praise to God. All are welcome! NOTE: There will not be a meeting on July 5th because of the holiday.

 

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION Our monthly Eucharistic Adoration in the Rectory Chapel will take place on Friday, July 2nd, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday, July 3rd, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Confessions for First Friday will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the church on Thursday, July 1st. Please join with us in worshiping Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

One Nation Under God

 

On July 4th, we will mark the 234th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence by 56 men who pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. These signers, who ranged in age from 26 to 70, were moral men, mostly religious, and many of them suffered for their decision to separate the 13 American colonies from the rule of Great Britain.

Of particular interest to us is the document they signed. How many are aware, for example, that God is referred to four times in the Declaration, and that the signers promulgated the document "with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence"? Those who try to ignore the place of God at the beginning of our nation or who try to remove Him from the public square today should take the time to read the Declaration of Independence.

Furthermore, those who today promote abortion as a "right" ought to read the Declaration, too. For the 56 signers clearly stated: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Note two things: (1) we get our rights from God, not from government, and (2) the first of these rights is the right to life. This makes sense since, without the right to life, we can't enjoy any other rights. The Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence would be horrified to learn that, instead of protecting life, our Federal Government is doing all it can to take away the right to life of the tiniest members of the human family.

We need on this July 4th to pray for a return to the principles upon which this country was founded.

Date for Parish Picnic Set ‑ We will get together for our annual Parish Picnic at Hopkinton State Park on Saturday, July 10th, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Everyone had a wonderful time last year, so please mark the date on your calendar and plan to join us. Our annual Family Day celebration on the grounds of Stephen Parish will take place in August, and we will publish more details about this event in a future bulletin.

 

A Word of Thanks ‑ The Parish extends a sincere word of thanks to Salvador Romero, who recently put a new coat of white paint on the wooden arch that protects the Monument to the Unborn, which is situated in front of the Church on Concord Street. We are most grateful to Salvador and ask God to bless him always.

 

PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

 

     O Jesus, our great High Priest, hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priests. Give them a deep faith, a bright and firm hope, and a burning love which will ever increase in the course of their priestly life.

     In their loneliness, comfort them. In their sorrows, strengthen them. In their frustrations, point out to them that it is through suffering that the soul is purified, and show them that they are needed by souls; they are needed for the work of redemption.

     O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests, take to your heart your sons who are close to you because of their priestly Ordination and because of the power which they have received to carry on the work of Christ in a world which needs them so much.

     Be their comfort, be their joy, be their strength, and especially help them to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy. Amen.
