FASTING and ABSTINANCE: The practice of fasting and abstinence during the Lenten Season has been practiced and kept for centuries now.

There are two days of fasting during Lent: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. On these two days, people 18 years old and up to 60 are mandated to fast. No meat can be eaten on these days and only one full meal is allowed during the day. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices, are allowed.

Abstinance, that is, no meat meals, is mandated to all people 14 years old and older for Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent.

We can also use the 40 days of Lent to pray and attend Mass more often and to witness to our love of Christ crucified by special solicitude for the most needy among us, like the poor, the sick, the stranger and unprivileged.

The 12:10 a.m. Mass offered during the Lenten season is available for particular intentions. If you wish to offer this Mass for a loved one or special intention, please call the parish secretary between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday and give your loved ones this most precious gift of prayer. The Church highly recommends this practice; the most laudable offering for your loved ones.
